HP XC System Software Installation Guide Version 3.2
# scontrol update NodeName=n[1-5] State=IDLE
6.2 Reinstalling Systems with HP Integrity Hardware Models
This section describes the following tasks:
• “Reinstalling the Entire System” (page 134)
• “Reinstalling One or More Nodes” (page 134)
6.2.1 Reinstalling the Entire System
Follow this procedure to reinstall HP XC System Software Version 3.2 on systems comprised of
HP Integrity hardware models.
A reinstallation requires that all nodes are set to network boot. The setnode --resync
command automatically sets all nodes to network boot, however, the setnode --resync
command requires that Netboot is defined as the common user-specified label for the network
boot option that is configured in the EFI shell environment for each node. The procedure contained
here describes how to set a consistent user-specified label for the network boot option if it is not
set to a consistent value of Netboot for all nodes.
Follow this procedure to reinstall an entire system with HP XC System Software Version 3.2:
1. Begin this procedure as the root user on the head node.
2. Use the scontrol command to ensure that all jobs are drained from all client nodes, where
nodelist represents the entire set of nodes (for example, n[1–64]):
# scontrol update NodeName=nodelist State=DRAIN Reason="system shutdown"
3. Prepare all client nodes to network boot rather than boot from local disk:
# setnode --resync --all
4. Shut down all client nodes:
# stopsys
5. Insert the HP XC System Software Version 3.2 DVD distribution media into the DVD drive
on the head node.
6. Reboot the head node to start the Kickstart installation:
# reboot
7. Follow the instructions in this document, beginning with Chapter 2 (page 37), to complete
the installation process.
6.2.2 Reinstalling One or More Nodes
Follow this procedure to prepare one or more HP Integrity client nodes to be automatically
reinstalled from the latest golden image on the image server. This procedure sets the specified
nodes to network boot from the DHCP server and automatically starts a reinstallation operation
on the node or nodes by temporarily modifying the EFI environment to allow the node or nodes
to network boot.
This procedure assumes nodes 1 through 5 (n1–5) are to be reinstalled.
1. Begin this procedure as the root user on the head node.
2. Use the scontrol command to ensure that all jobs are drained from nodes n1 through n5:
# scontrol update NodeName=n[1-5] State=DRAIN Reason="system shutdown"
3. Prepare all client nodes to network boot rather than boot from local disk:
# setnode --resync --all
4. Turn on and turn off power to the specified nodes to automatically start the reimaging
operation:
