HP XC System Software Installation Guide Version 3.2

Follow this procedure to upgrade the RPMs on the system:
1. Change directory to the mount point of the DVD:
# cd /mnt/cdrom
2. Update the Linux and HP XC RPMs:
# upgraderpms
NOTE: Because the upgraderpms command output spans several pages, it is shown in
Appendix L (page 239). Return here when command processing is complete.
3. Unmount the DVD:
# cd
# umount /dev/cdrom
4. Eject the DVD from the drive.
5. Reboot the head node, thus booting the new HP XC kernel:
# reboot
6. Verify that the system booted with the correct kernel. The HP XC System Software Release
Notes lists the final kernel version that was shipped in Version 3.2, and the results of the
uname command must match that kernel version.
# uname -a
Proceed to “Task 5: View the Results of the RPM Upgrade.”
5.6 Task 5: View the Results of the RPM Upgrade
Follow this procedure to view the results of the RPM upgrade process and verify that it was
successful:
1. Use the method of your choice to view the log file that contains the results of the Linux and
HP XC RPM upgrade process. This example uses the more command.
# more /var/log/yum_upgrade.log
2. You must resolve all failed dependencies and RPM conflicts. See “Troubleshooting the
Software Upgrade Procedure” (page 177) for information about resolving upgrade errors. If
you cannot determine how to resolve these errors, contact the HP XC Support team at the
following e-mail address:
xc_support@hp.com
3. Do not proceed to the next upgrade task until you resolve all RPM upgrade failures.
5.7 Task 6: Install Patches and Reinstall Additional Software
Follow this procedure to install patches and reinstall additional software on the upgraded system
now, before the golden image is propagated to all client nodes:
1. Install all patches from the HP IT Resource Center (ITRC) website that might be available
for HP XC Version 3.2. “Download and Install Patches” (page 65) describes how to download
HP XC patches from this website.
IMPORTANT: You might have to reboot the head node if a patch to the kernel is required,
and the patch README file provides instructions. You must stop all user applications before
rebooting the head node.
It is also important to download patches to a directory that is not included in the golden
image, as described in “Download and Install Patches” (page 65).
2. If the system is installed with the HP SFS client software, install all SFS client patches.
