HP XC System Software Installation Guide Version 3.1

The command output looks different depending upon the hardware model and the interconnect type.
CAUTION: Do not proceed to the next step in the upgrade process if the output from the
preupgradesys script indicates failures. If you cannot determine how to resolve these errors, contact
the HP XC Support organization at the following e-mail address:
xc_support@hp.com
9. Save the current system configuration to a file to create a snapshot of the system configuration before
the upgrade:
# shownode config --admin > /var/log/preupgradesys/shownode_config.txt
5.5 Task 4: Upgrade Linux and HP XC RPMs
How you perform this task depends on the type of upgrade you are performing. Proceed to one of the
following sections to upgrade the system with new versions of Linux and HP XC RPMs:
“Major Upgrade: Upgrade RPMs” (page 100)
“Minor Upgrade: Upgrade RPMs” (page 101)
5.5.1 Major Upgrade: Upgrade RPMs
A major software upgrade uses the Anaconda Kickstart automated installation process, which is invoked
by booting from the HP XC DVD to access the ks_upgrade.cfg Kickstart upgrade file.
Follow this procedure to upgrade the RPMs on the system:
1. Make sure the DVD is still in the DVD drive, and reboot the head node:
# reboot
2. At the boot prompt, enter the appropriate boot command to start the upgrade process and specify
the name of the Kickstart upgrade file. You must act fast, because the system does not pause very
long at the boot prompt. As listed in Table 5-6, the command line is different depending upon the
cluster platform chip architecture and how the boot device was set.
IMPORTANT: Some hardware models require additional parameters to be included on the command
line. Before booting the head node, look in the HP XC System Software Release Notes at
http://www.docs.hp.com/en/highperfcomp.html to make sure no additional command-line options
are required for your hardware model.
