HP XC System Software Installation Guide Version 3.0

Task 5: Arrange for IP Address Assignments and Host Names
Make arrangements with your site's network administrator to assign IP addresses for the following system
components. All IP addresses must be defined in your site's Domain Name System (DNS) configuration:
The external IP address of the system, if it is to be connected to an external network. The name associated
with this interface is known as the LVS or cluster alias.
The external IP address of the head node, if it is to be connected to an external network.
The IP address of any other node that will have a connection to an external network.
When you contact your network administrator about assigning IP addresses, you must also provide the host
names for any system that will have a connection to an external network. Therefore, consider the following:
If you assign a login role to one or more nodes, what name will you use as the cluster alias? This name
is the host name by which users will log in to the system.
What name will you use as the host name for any node that has a connection to the external network?
See Section (page 101) for host naming guidelines.
Task 6: Have the License Key File Ready
Several XC software components require licensing, and two HP XC license key files were sent to you in two
separate e-mail messages. If you have not received your license key information, contact your HP
representative.
On another machine, save the contents of these two messages into one file named XC.lic. Remove all ^M
characters (Ctrl+M) from this file if the file was sent to you through DOS.
Record the location of this file. During the system configuration process, you will copy this file to the
appropriate directory on your HP XC system, as described in “Put the License Key File in the Correct Location
(Required)” (page 46).
Note
The sample XC.lic shown in Example 2-1 is included in this document for illustrative purposes only; it is
not intended for use and is not valid for your system.
Example 2-1 Sample XC.lic File
Hewlett Packard Company -- This message in its entirety may be placed into
your license file. Use an ASCII Text Editor to avoid introducing characters
which will invalidate the license file. If you have any problems installing
this license key, contact the parties listed on the associated license
documentation or web site.

Your site might have specific licensing requirements that require you to modify the license key file. For
example, your site might be using an external license server. In that case, you need to modify the USE_SERVER
attribute.
HP XC license management is provided by the industry-standard FLEXlm license management utility developed
by Macrovision (formerly Globetrotter). See the FLEXlm documentation for information about modifying a
license key file. You can obtain the
