HP XC System Software Installation Guide Version 3.0
2 Preparing for a New Installation
This chapter describes preinstallation tasks to perform before you install HP XC System Software Version
3.0. Perform the tasks in the following sequence:
• Task 1: Read Related Documentation (page 23)
• Task 2: Back Up User Data on Existing HP XC Systems (page 23)
• Task 3: Prepare the Hardware (page 23)
• Task 4: Verify the Firmware (page 23)
• Task 5: Arrange for IP Address Assignments and Host Names (page 24)
• Task 6: Have the License Key File Ready (page 24)
• Task 7: Purchase and License Additional Software from Third-Party Vendors (page 25)
Task 1: Read Related Documentation
Read the following documentation before beginning the installation procedure:
•
HP XC System Software Release Notes
This document describes known problems and solutions and late-breaking information about the HP
XC System Software that are not documented elsewhere. The information contained in the release notes
might affect the successful installation or configuration of your system.
The
HP XC System Software Release Notes
for each XC software release are available at :
http://www.hp.com/techservers/clusters/xc_clusters.html
• Chapter 8: “Node Roles, Services, and the Default Configuration” (page 91)
This chapter describes the default system configuration and explains the concept of roles and services,
which are assigned to one or more nodes in your system. It is important to understand the concept of
roles and role assignments before beginning so that you are prepared to assign roles to your nodes.
Task 2: Back Up User Data on Existing HP XC Systems
This task applies to anyone who is installing HP XC System Software Version 3.0 on a system that is installed
with an older version of the HP XC System Software. If you are performing a new installation on new
hardware, skip this task.
Before performing a new installation on an existing HP XC system using the procedures described in this
document, HP recommends that you perform the following tasks:
• Back up existing user files and data using the backup processes established at your facility.
• Preserve local user accounts.
Task 3: Prepare the Hardware
Use the information in the
HP XC Hardware Preparation Guide
to prepare your hardware. The connection
of nodes to ProCurve switch ports is important for the automatic discovery process. The
HP XC Hardware
Preparation Guide
describes these connections in detail.
Do not proceed with the software installation process until all hardware preparation tasks are complete.
Task 4: Verify the Firmware
The
HP XC Hardware Preparation Guide
provides a list of firmware version dependencies. Follow the
instructions in the accompanying HP Cluster Platform documents to ensure that all hardware components are
running the latest firmware version; upgrade it, if necessary.
The master firmware list for this release is available on line, along with the HP XC System Software
Documentation Set, at:
