HP XC System Software Installation Guide Version 3.0
At this point you have the following options:
• Enter the letter O to accept the role assignments you just made.
• Enter the letter R to start the assignment process again. The Reassign Roles option does not apply
the role assignments, it simply allows you to go back to the list of roles and make adjustments to the
role assignments.
• Enter the letter C to cancel the operation and make no changes to the currently assigned roles.
Analyzing Current Role Assignments Against HP Recommendations
At the main menu of the cluster_config utility, enter the letter A to analyze current node role assignments
recommended by HP, which are optimized for scale-out.
[L]ist Nodes, [M]odify Nodes, [A]nalyze, [H]elp, [P]roceed, [Q]uit: A
HP recommends using this option any time you run the cluster_config utility, even when you are
configuring your system for the first time.
First Portion of Command Output
The first portion of the command output provides the general recommendations for how the system should
be divided into service servers and compute nodes based on the total number of nodes (in this example, the
recommendations are for a 500 node system). Table F-2 provides a detailed explanation of the output.
Recommended Cluster Configuration Total Nodes: 500
----------------------------------------------------------------
9 Nodes assigned service roles
1 Exclusive servers
1 resource_management(slurm)
8 Non-exclusive servers
491 Compute nodes
Table F-2 General Command Output of the Analyze Option
DescriptionItem
Shows the actual total number of nodes in your system.Total nodes
Shows the recommended number of nodes that should be assigned any role except
the compute role.
Nodes assigned service roles
Shows the recommended number of nodes that should be dedicated to a role.Exclusive servers
Shows the recommended number of nodes that should have roles assigned other
than the compute role minus the number of exclusive servers.
Non-exclusive servers
Shows the recommended number of dedicated compute nodes.Compute nodes
Second Portion of Command Output
The second portion of the command output provides information about specific role assignment
recommendations. This output does not identify specific node names. To determine specific node names,
use the List function. Table F-3 (page 120) provides a detailed explanation of the output.
