HP XC System Software Installation Guide Version 3.0
Please enter node name or [C]ancel: n15
Current Node: n15
[E]xternal Network Configuration, [R]oles, [H]elp, [B]ack:
At this point you have the following options:
• Enter the letter E and proceed to “Adding an Ethernet Connection” (page 118) to configure an external
Ethernet connection on any node.
• Enter the letter R and proceed to “Modifying Node Role Assignments” (page 118) to modify node role
assignments.
• Enter the letter B to go back to the previous menu.
Adding an Ethernet Connection
To add a network Ethernet connection to a node to connect the node directly to your public network, enter
the letter E at the following prompt:
[E]xternal Network Configuration, [R]oles, [H]elp, [B]ack: E
Enter the letter E again at the following prompt to create a new Ethernet connection or modify an existing
connection:
[E]dit Network Settings, [D]elete Network Settings, [H]elp, [B]ack: E
hostname: penguin2.southpole.com
IP Address: 192.0.2.4
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway IP Address: 192.0.2.51
[E]dit Network Settings, [D]elete Network Settings, [H]elp, [B]ack:
You must define an external Ethernet network connection to any node that is assigned with the nis_server
or external role.
Enter the letter B when you have completed your task to go back to the previous menu.
Modifying Node Role Assignments
The cluster configuration menu provides the ability for you to assign roles to specific nodes. See “Role
Definitions” (page 92) for detailed definitions of all node roles and the services they provide.
Enter the letter R at the following prompt to modify the default node role assignments:
[E]xternal Network Configuration, [R]oles, [H]elp, [B]ack: R
The following submenu is displayed:
[1] : compute
[2] : disk_io
[3] : external
[4] : login
[5] : management_hub
[6] : management_server
[7] : nis_server
[8] : resource_management
Current Node: n15
Current Assigned Roles: compute disk_io
Enter the number corresponding to the role or roles you want to assign to this
node. Use a space-separated list to specify multiple roles, for example, 1 3 5.
Or, enter 'c' to [C]ancel.
Assume you want to add a login role to node n15. Not only do you enter the number 4, you must also enter
the numbers 1 and 2 to retain the current compute and disk_io roles on node n15. Basically, you have
to supply every role that you want to assign to the node. Thus, your entry looks like this:
Enter the number corresponding to the role or roles you want to assign to this
node. Use a space-separated list to specify multiple roles, for example, 1 3 5.
Or, enter 'c' to [C]ancel. 1 2 4
Roles to be assigned: compute disk_io login
