HP XC System Software Administration Guide Version 3.1

5 Managing Licenses
This chapter describes the following topics:
“License Manager and License File” (page 75)
“Determining If the License Manager Is Running” (page 75)
“Starting and Stopping the License Manager” (page 75)
5.1 License Manager and License File
The license manager service runs on the head node and maintains licensing information for software on
the HP XC system. You can find additional information on the FLEXlm license manager at the Macrovision
Web site:
http://www.macrovision.com
The license manager uses a license file to maintain all licenses associated with the HP XC system. The
/opt/hptc/etc/license/XC.lic file is the license file for the HP XC system.
You may need to update the HP XC license file, for example, to include a future additional product and
updating the expiration. Update the license file /opt/hptc/etc/license/XC.lic with the text editor
of your choice.
The /var/log/syslic file is the log file for the license manager.
5.2 Determining If the License Manager Is Running
Log in to the head node as superuser and execute the following commands to determine whether or not
the license manager is running:
# lmstat -a
Output like the following indicates that the license manager is not running:
Error getting status: Cannot find license
file (-1,359:2 "No such file or directory")
The output of the lmstat command resembles the following when the license manager is running:
License server status: system
License file(s) on system: /opt/hptc/etc/license/XC.lic:
system: license server UP (MASTER) v9.2
Vendor daemon status (on system):
Compaq: UP v9.2
Feature usage info:
Users of XC: (Uncounted, node-locked)
Users of lsf_xc: (Uncounted, node-locked)
Users of XC-CPUS: (Total of 256 licenses issued; Total of 0 licenses in use)
The output of the lmstat command depends on the licensed products and on the number of processors
licensed for the HP XC system.
5.3 Starting and Stopping the License Manager
The service command enables you to start, stop, and restart the license manager service from the head
node.
