HP XC System Software Installation Guide Version 2.1
I.4.7 Resource Management Role
Nodes with the resource management role provide the s erv ices necessary to support
SLURM and LSF HPC.
The m anagement database names of the services provided by this role are:
• LSF master n ode (lsf)
• SLURM central control service (slurm_controller)
You can assign this role to multiple nodes in the cluster to provide support for failover. Multiple
nodes may have this role defined, but only one is active at a time. If the SLURM central
control service fails on the active node, the daemon will be started on ano ther node with the
resource management role.
This role is assigned to t he h ead node as part of the head node’s default services.
I.4.8 Common Role
The common role is assigned to all nodes. This role runs services that must be present
on every node.
The m anagement database names of the services provided by this role are:
• Console manageme nt facility client (cmf_client)
• Hardware information gathering (gather_data)
• Environmen tal monitorin g for the HP ProLiant DL585 server (hpasm)
• HPTC file system c lien t (hptc_cluster_fs_client)
• IP firewall (iptables)
• Network adapter setup (network)
• Parallel distributed shell (pdsh)
• SLURM launch (slurm_launch)
• syslog-ng (syslogng)
These s ervices provide functionality that is required on all nodes and are fundamental to the
proper functioning of the cluster.
I.4.9 NAT Client Role
Nodes with the NAT client role are configured as clients of one or more NAT servers.
The management database name of the service supplied by this role is called nat_client.
This role is placed on all nodes in the system by default unless the n ode has a configured
external net w or k connectio n. This role indicates that the node needs the services of a NAT
server to obtain connectivity to the external network.
_________________________ Note _________________________
You can configure a node as a NAT server (external role) and NAT client.
However, if both roles are defined for a particular node, the configuration script
makes the node a NAT serv er.
