HP XC System Software Installation Guide Version 2.1

_________________________ Note _________________________
HP recomm ends that you co nsid er u sing one managem ent hub for every 64-128
nodes.
I.4.5 External Role
The external role supplies the NAT server service, which does network address
translation w ithin the cluster. This enables applications to access nodes that do not have
an external network connection. The management database name of the service supplied by
this role is nat.
Assign this role only to nodes that have an external network connectio n config ured .
The system can have mu ltiple nodes defined with the external role, sup plying multiple NAT
servers to ease n etwork traffic congestion.
Applications h ave no need to be aware of th e actual internal IP address of a com pu te node
because a NAT server node handles all network requests.
I.4.6 Node Management Role
Nodes with the node management role run a number of services that help manage other
nodes in the system. T his role is restricted to the head node.
The m anagement database names of the services provided by this role are:
Console managem e nt facility master (cmf)
Database server (dbserver)
Dynamic Host Control Protocol (DHCP) server (dhcp)
HPTC file system server (hptc_cluster_fs)
License manager (hptc-lm)
•Imageserver(imageserver)
HP MPI interconnect setup (mpiic)
•NFSserver(nfs_server)
Network time protocol (ntp)
Power daemon server (pwrmgmtserver)
The DHCP server for the cluster assign s IP addresses for all devices on the internal network
based on each node’s MAC address.
The M ySQL database, in which all management configuration inform ation is stored, runs on a
node wit h this role.
The p ower man a ger service manages the powering on and off of nodes in the system.
The MPI interconnect settings are managed by nodes r unn ing this role.
The image server service p rovides images from the SystemImager tool to all client nodes.
The NTP server synchronizes the time on all nodes.
The license manager service enables some software components in the system when a valid
license is present.
