HP XC System Software Installation Guide Version 2.1
D
Installing Additional Software
This chap ter contains information about installing and using add itional software products.
The following topics are discussed:
• Overview of third-party software on an XC system (Section D.1)
• Intel and PGI C om pilers (Section D.2)
• MLIB dependency on compilers (Section D.3)
D.1 Overview
An HP XC system supports the use of several third-party s oftware products. Use of these
products is optional; the purchase a nd installation of these co mponents is your decision
depending on your site’s requirem ents.
HP recom m e nds that you install additional software compo nents after installing the HP XC
System Software (the procedure described in Chapter 3) and before configuring the system
(the procedure described in Chapter 4) so that the software is propagated to all nodes during
the initial im age synchronization.
The informatio n in this chapter does not include any third-party vendor or product–specific
information; see the d ocumentation sup plied by the vendor for this type of information.

The HP XC System S oftware QuickSpecs contain a list of commercial ly available software
packages that have been tested and qualified to interoperate with the H P XC System
Software. If y ou want to learn m ore abou t these supported software packages, see the

D.2 Intel and PGI Compilers
The XC software d oes not bundle or resell Intel or P GI compilers. You are responsible for
purchasing and l icensing them from the third-party vendors. There may be run-time licensing
issues (for running the resulting applications ) separate from licensing the compiler itself.
Additional co mp ilers, such as those fro m Intel or PGI, can be installed on X C systems after
the initial system installat ion by using the inst allat ion in structions supplied by their kits and by
distributing th e software to all nodes as described in the HP XC System Software Adm inistration
Guide so that the suppli e d libraries are visible to distributed applications.
During the compiler installation p rocess, use the default locations suggested by t he installation
process, if possible. If you change the installation directory and modules are being used, you
