9. Download all patches that are available for your cluster platform into the temporary
directory you created.
If yo u are unable to retrieve the files from this site, contact th e XC sup port team at
[e-mail].
10. Follow the patch installation instructions in the README file.
3.7 Install HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share (Optional)
HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share (H P SFS) is based on Lustre™ technolog y developed
by Clus ter File Systems, Inc. HP SFS is a turnkey Lustre system that can be configured to
operate with an XC system .
The HP Stora geWorks Scalable File Share User’s Guide contains a detailed product overview
and describes how to install and configure the servers and storag e in the HP SFS system, how to
install the HP SFS client software on client nodes, and how to set up file system s. In addition, i t
provides informatio n on mounting and unmounting HP SFS file systems on client nodes.
The HP SFS client software is provided on the HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share Client
Software CD (it is not provided on the HP XC System Software DVD). Install the HP SFS
client software now.
When your XC system has been fully installed and configu red , follow the configuration
instructions in the HP SFS documentation to configure your XC system to operate with the
HP SFS system.
3.8 Install Required Third-Party Software Now (Optional)
There may be additional s oftw are that you want to install on your system or software that is
required (such as a specific co m piler for ML I B ). Install that additiona l software now before
the system is configured so that the software is transparently propagated to all nodes d uring
the initial im age synchronization.
Additional software that is not bundled with the XC software that yo u might want to install at
this time includes the I ntel® Fortran and C comp ilers, The Portland Group™ PGI® com piler,
and the TotalView® Debu gger.

3.9 You Are Done
Yo u have completed the installation of the HP X C System Software on the head node. Proceed
to Chapter 4 to configu re the system topolo gy, set up the system environment, start system
services, and synchronize the system image across all nodes.
