upon your cluster platform architecture and how the boot dev ice was set. Enter one of
the following comm ands:
On Opteron- and Xeon-based systems, enter th is command:
boot: linux ks=cdrom:/ks.cfg
On I tan ium -b ased systems, if the boot device was set through the preconfigured boot
option, and the ELILO boot prompt is displayed, enter this command:
ELILO boot: linux ks=cdrom:/ks.cfg
On Itanium-based systems, if the boo t dev ice was set throug h the EFI Shell option ,
enter this comm and at the fs0:> prompt:
fs0:> elilo linux ks=cdrom:/ks.cfg
6. When prompted, answer the questions that are listed in Table 3-5. You have the
opportunity to confirm every answer before continuing to the next questio n.
When you have answered all questions, the unattended software load p ro cess begins. The
total software load takes about 15 minutes. A progress bar is displayed as the Linux RPMs
are loading. When the XC-specific RPMs are lo adin g, the following message is disp layed
and remains on the screen until the software load is complete:

After the software load is complete, ensure that the DVD is ejected before contin uin g.

On systems with a retractable DVD device, you must remove the installation
DVD before the system reboots. If you do not remove the DVD, a second
installation process is initiated from the installation DVD when t he system
reboots. If a second in stallation process is started, halt the process and remove
the installation DVD. Upon reboot, the system will boot from the orig inal,
completed installation (assuming that the second installation had not begun).
7. Select the kernel to boot from when you see th e fo llo wing prom pt. Wait 60 seco nds, and
the new kernel, which is t he first choice in the list, is selected for you automa ti cally.

8. Log in as the root user when the l ogin screen is displayed.
9. Open a terminal window when the desktop is displayed:
a. Click on t he footprint icon on the toolbar to open the Gnome main menu.
b. Open the System Tools men u, scroll down the list of options, and choose
Terminal to open a terminal windo w.
3.5 Install Additional RPMs Now (Optional)
Yo ur XC system is install e d with the system s of twar e that is mo s t appropriate for a
high-performance cluster com puter. Software that is m ore approp riate for a Linux workstatio n
or time-sharing computer, such as much of the KDE and Gnome functionality, various Web
browsers, games, and so on, is available on the XC distribution DVD.
To install addit ion a l RPMs from the Inst allat ion D VD, you must mount the DVD and navigate
to the directory containing the RPMs.
Follow this procedure to install additional RPMs:
1. Insert th e installatio n DVD int o the DVD drive and mount it on the default location:
# mount /dev/cdrom
