external network node
A node that is connected to a network external to the XC syst em.

fairshare
An LSF HPC job-scheduling policy that specifi es how resources should be shared by com peting
users. A fairshare policy defines the order in which LSF H PC attem pts to place jobs that are in a
queue or a host partition.
FCFS
First come first served. An LSF H PC job-scheduling policy that specifies that jobs are
dispatched according to their order in a queue, which is determined by job priority, not by
order of submission to the queue.

global storage
Storage within the XC system that is available to all o f the nodes in the system. Also known
as local storage.
golden client
The node from which a standard file system image is created. Th e golden imag e is d istributed
by the im age server. In a standard XC installation, the head node acts as the image server
andgoldenclient.
golden image
A collection of files, created fr om the go lden client file system that are d ist rib uted to on e or
more client systems. Specific files on the golden client may be excluded from the golden
image if the y are not appropriate for replication.
golden master
The collection of directories and files tha t represents all of the software and configuration data
of an XC system. The softw are for any and all nodes of an XC system can be produced solely
by th e use of thi s collection of directories and files.
H
head node
The single node that is the basis for software installation, system configuration, and
administrative functions in an XC system . There may be another nod e that can provide a failover
function for the head node, b ut there is o nly one head node for the XC system at any one time.
host name
The name given to a computer. Lowercase and uppercase l etters (a–z and A–Z), numbers
(0–9), periods, and dashes are permitted in host n ames. Valid host names contain f rom 2 to 63
characters, with the first character being a letter.

Integrated Lights Out. A self-contained hardware technology available on XC 300 0 systems
that allows remote management of any node within a system.
