HP XC System Software Hardware Preparation Guide Version 2.1

About This Document
This document describes how to prepare the nodes in your H P cluster platform before installing
HP XC System Software.
An HP XC system is integrated with several open source software components. Some open
source software com ponents are being used for underlying techn olo gy, and their deployment
is transparent. Some open source software components require HP XC-specific user-level
documentation, and that kin d of info rm a tion is included in this document, if required.
HP relies o n the documentation provided by the op en source developers to supply the
information you need to use t heir product. For links to open source software documentatio n for
products that are integrated with your XC system, see Supplementary Inform ation.
Documentation for third-party hardware and software components that are supported on the HP
XC system is supplied by the th ird-party vendor. However, information about the operation
of third-party software is included in this document if the functionality of th e th ird-party
component differs from standard behavior when used in the XC environment. In this case, HP
XC documentation supersedes informatio n supplied by the third-party vendor. F or links to
related third-party Web sites, s ee Supplementa ry Information.
Standard Linux® administrative tasks or the functions provided by standa rd Lin ux tools
and commands are documented in commercially available Linux reference manuals and on
various Web sites. For more information about obtaining do cumentation for standard Linux
administrative tasks and associated topics, see the list of Web sites and additional pub licat ions
provided in Related Information.
Intended Audience
The information in this manual is written for the technician or administrator who has the task of
preparing the hardware that will run the HP XC System Software.
The following assumptions have been made in preparing the content of this manual:
You are familiar w ith accessing BIOS and consoles with either Ethernet or serial port
connections and terminal emulato rs.
You have access to the documentation that comes with the hardware platform on which the
software will be installed.
You have knowledge of the Linux operating system.
Document Organization
This document is organized as follows:
Chapter 1 provides an overview o f the hardware supported on an XC system and describes
the XC n etwo rks.
Chapter 2 describes the h ardware connections that must be made before installing the
XC system software.
Chapter 3 describes the steps required to prepare all nodes before installing the XC system
software.
•TheGlossary provides definitions of the terms used in this manual.
