1 The console Ethernet port is t he connection to the Console Switch (branch or root).
2 If a Gig
abit Ethernet (GigE) interconnect is configured, this port is used for the
inter
connect connection. Otherwise, it is used for an external connection.
3 NIC1 is the connection to the Administration Switch (branch or root). Correspo nds to
eth0 in Linux if there are no additional optional Ethernet ports installed in expansion slots.
On the HP ProLiant D L145 server, NIC1 is the po rt on the right labeled with the number 1.
Perform the following hardware preparation tasks from the BIOS Setup Utility for each HP
ProLiant DL145 in your system:
1. Turn on power to the node. Watch the screen carefully dur ing the power-on self-test, and
press the F10 key when prompted to access the BIOS Setup Utility.
2. Prepare each node, except the head node, to PXE boot off the network using the interface
referred to as NIC1:
a. From the Boot Screen menu, choose Boot Settings Configuration
-> Onboard NIC PXE Option ROM, and set the value to Enabled.
b. For the head node o nly, choose Boot Settings Configuration ->
Onboard NIC PXE Option ROM, and set the value to Disabled.
3. From the Advanced Screen menu , choose Management Processor
Configuration -> Set Serial Port Sharing, and set the value to Shared.
4. On the Advanced Screen menu, choo se BIOS Serial Console
Configuration -> Redirection after BIOS POST, and set the value to
Enabled.
5. Set the standard boot ord er on the h ead node so that it boots from CD-ROM first. Set all
other nodes to boot in the follow ing order: CD-ROM, NIC1, Hard Disk.
The NIC1 interface is named Broadcom MBA, and it is the second choice with this name
from the Boot Screen Menu –> Boot Device Priority:

6. Make any other BIOS settings at this tim e. For example, if you want t o connect to the
serial port connection in o rder to connect to the console or the Management P rocessor, you
could make sure that the BIOS Serial Co nsole Configuration settings are set to support
your terminal or terminal program.
