HP XC System Software Hardware Preparation Guide Version 2.1

1
Hardware and Network Overview
This chapter discusses the setup of hardware and netw ork s of the XC sy stem. The topics
discussed are:
Supported HP cluster platforms (S ectio n 1.1)
Interconnect networks (Section 1.2)
Supported console management devices (Section 1.3)
System Administratio n network (Section 1.4)
Console Br anch of the System Administration network (Section 1.5)
1.1 Supported Cluster Platforms
The hardware supported in the XC system is the HP Clust er Platfo rm 3 000 (CP3000), HP
Cluster 4000 (CP4000), and HP Cluster Platform 6000 (CP6000 ). For more information about
the cluster platforms, refer to the documentation that was shipped with your hardware.
Table 1-1 lists the servers models that are supported for each HP cluster platform. An XC
system must con tain at least 5 nodes up to a maximum of 256 nodes.

1.2 Interconnect Network
The interconnect network is a private network with in the X C system. Typically, every node in
the XC system is connected to the interconnect.
The interconnect provides a high-speed co mm un ications path used pr im arily f or user file service
and for com munications within applications that are distributed among nodes of the cluster.
Table 1-2 lists the interconnects that can be used on each cluster platform.
