Administering Local User Accounts
This chapter describes how to add, modify, and delete a local user account on the HP XC
system. It discusses how:
• To administer local user accounts (Sect
ion 10.1)
• To add a local user account (Section 10.2)
• To modify a local user account (Section 10.3)
• To delete a local user account (Sectio
n 10.4)
• To change the root password (Section 10.5)
• To synchronize the Network Inform ation Service (NIS) database (Section 10.6)
10.1 General Procedures for Administering Local User
Accounts
In general, the administration of u ser accounts on the HP XC system is a three-step process:
1. As superuser, run the appropriate c
ommands to add, change, or delete a local user account
on the golden clien t managem ent no
de (that is, the n ode that hosts the golden client
service).
You can use the standard Linux user commands (useradd, usermod,anduserdel)or
use the Network Information Service (NIS) across the system. Editing the appropriate files
manually is not recommended.
2. Transfer the necessary files from the local file system to the i mage server by way of
the gold e n client.
3. Propagate this in formation
to all the nodes in the system.
Steps 2 and 3 are discussed in more detail in Chapter 7.
10.2 Adding a Local User Account
Use the following procedure to add a user account and to propagate that inform ation to all the
nodes in the sy stem:
1. Log in to the golden client n
ode as superuser.
2. Collect as much of the following information about this account as possible:
• Login name
This information is requi

•User’sname
• User’s password
