external network node
A node that is connected to a network external to the XC system.

fairshare
An LSF job-scheduling policy that specifies how resources should be shared by co m p e ting
users. A fairshare policy defines the order in which LSF attempts to place jobs that are in a
queue or a host partition.
FCFS
First come first serv ed. An LSF job-scheduling policy that specifies that jobs are dispatched
according to t heir order in a queue, which is determined by job priority, not by order of
submission to the queue.

global storage
Storage within the XC system that is available to all of the n odes in the system. A lso k nown
as local storage.
golden client
The node from wh ich a standard file system image is created . The golden image is distributed
by the ima ge server. In a stand a rd XC installation, the head node acts as the image server
andgoldenclient.
golden image
A collectio n of files, created fr om the go lden client file system that are distributed to one or
more client systems. Specific files on the golden client may be excluded from the golden
image if the y are not a ppropriate for replication.
golden master
The collection of directories and files that represents all of the software and configuration data
of an XC system. T he software for any and all nodes of an XC system can be p roduced solely
by th e use of this collection of d irect or ies and files.
H
head node
The single node that is the basis for software installation, system configuration, and
administrative functions in an XC system. Th ere may be another node that can provide a failover
function for the head node, but there i s only one head node for the XC system at any one time.
host name
The name given to a computer. Lowercase and uppercase letters (a–z and A–Z), numb ers
(0–9), periods, and dashes are permitted in host names. Valid host names contain from 2 to 63
characters, with the first character being a letter.
