HP XC System Software Administration Guide Version 2.1
This command is configured to run once each hour b
yacrontab file in the
/etc/cron.hourly directory.
15.4.1.2 The gm_drain_test Diagnostic Tool
This diagnostic tool runs five tests for the Myricom switches in an HP XC system . It must be
launched from the head nod e an d it should be run only during allocated preventive main tenan ce.
Thefivetestsareasfollows:
gm_prodmode_mon
Checks environmental operating parameters.
gm_allsize
Tests network links.
gm_debug
Tests P CI bandwidth .
gm_board_info
Tests host detection.
gm_stress
Exercises the network; it might potentially detect workload
problems.
If the mute files exist, they are also gathered.
_________________________ Note _________________________
Run this test from the head node and only at a time w hen it will not interfere
with productivity.
The output from the gm_drain_test, as well as outpu t from the individual tests, is gathered
in a tar file, which is compressed with the gzip utility. You can use the -d optiontospecify
the directory w here this file will be located; if you do not specify a directory, it is placed in
/var/log/diag/myrinet/gm_drain_test/ by default.
The f ormat of this com m a nd is:
gm_drain_test [-help][-d directory-name]
15.4.2 Using Diagnostic Tools for the Quadrics System Interconnect
This section describes tools that were developed specifically for diagnosing the Quadrics system
interconnect on the H P XC system. In addition, Quadrics provid es a daemon, swmlogger,
that can be configured to log errors to a database along with tools to access the information in
this database. See your system’s hardware Installation and Operation G uide fo r information
about vendor-specific diagnostic tools.
15.4.2.1 The swmlogger Daemon
The swmlogger d aemo n provides a service to allow switch management daemons
(swmserver) running on embedded QNX modules in QsNet
II
® network switches to log
messages abo ut switch health to the network, either to a log file for generic usage or through an
MySQL database (as is the case in HP X C systems). In addition to logging erro rs in the QsNet
database, the swmlogger daemon also logs all errors to the /var/log/headnodename file
where headnodename is the n ode name of the head node (for examp le, /var/log/n16).
See the Diagnostics section of the Insta llation and Operation Guide for you r model of HP
cluster platform for additional information on the generic use of swmlogger.
The swmlogger daemon is an existing Quadrics system int e rconnect tool that m o n itors t he
state of each sw itch. It updates the database for changes in the status of fans, pow er supplies,
