HP Web Jetadmin - Upgrading from HP Web Jetadmin 10.2 SR4 and Earlier
3
In a few cases, functionality has changed enough that HP Web Jetadmin notifies the administrator of
a template or scheduled task change. In these cases, the notification alerts the administrator that a
specific configuration item has been removed from the template.
Here is an example of an upgrade notification where configuration items were removed from the
template. In Service Release 5, HP Web Jetadmin can potentially remove two configuration items from
both templates and scheduled tasks. These configuration items are:
Address Book Management (replaced by Import/Export Address Book)
Access Control for Device Applications (replaced by Access Control for Device
Functions)
Here are some steps administrators should take before performing the upgrade:
1. Back up HP Web Jetadmin as noted in the beginning of this document.
2. Locate templates that include the configuration items noted above.
3. Capture and note all settings related to these configuration items.
4. Locate past histories that show device configuration using either affected templates or scheduled
configurations.
5. Capture and note all settings related to these configuration items.
After the upgrade is complete and on the first client startup, the dialog shown in Figure 1 appears.
Use this dialog to address templates and scheduled task changes that took place during the upgrade.
HP WEB JETADMIN FILTERING DETAILS STORED IN DEVICE
LISTS OR IN DEVICE GROUPS
As stated previously, device data structures in HP Web Jetadmin 10.2 Service Release 5 have
changed. Because of these changes, filter settings put in place before the upgrade are impacted.
Filter functions in HP Web Jetadmin based on user settings made before the upgrade may no longer
work as expected, but remain in place after the upgrade has finished. After the installation, HP Web
Jetadmin displays a notice that certain filters require adjustment. The remainder of this document
describes the upgrade process as it relates to HP Web Jetadmin filtering.
