Upgrade Technical Note – Upgrading from HP Web Jetadmin 10.2 Service Release 4 and Earlier Important Additional Release Details CONTENTS Overview ................................................................................................................................ 2 Device Details Stored in HP Web Jetadmin Templates or Active Tasks ............................................ 2 HP Web Jetadmin Filtering Details Stored in Device Lists or in Device Groups .................................
OVERVIEW It is important for administrators to know about changes that will occur when upgrading from HP Web Jetadmin 10.2 Service Release 4 (10.2.71771) to newer versions of HP Web Jetadmin 10.2, specifically Service Release 5 (10.2.73942), Service Release 5 Hotfix (10.2.74918), Service Release 6 (10.2. 77156), and later releases. In essence, HP has changed device data structures to improve both usability and reliability.
In a few cases, functionality has changed enough that HP Web Jetadmin notifies the administrator of a template or scheduled task change. In these cases, the notification alerts the administrator that a specific configuration item has been removed from the template. Here is an example of an upgrade notification where configuration items were removed from the template. In Service Release 5, HP Web Jetadmin can potentially remove two configuration items from both templates and scheduled tasks.
Figure 2 – HP Web Jetadmin Installation Message After the HP Web Jetadmin installer is first launched and the installer application detects upgrade, a notice is displayed (Figure 2). The notice conveys to the administrator that certain filters, including those used in automatic grouping, could be affected. The notice also asks the administrator to back up the HP Web Jetadmin instance prior to doing the upgrade. This is the only portion of the install/upgrade that conveys the filter upgrade notice.
Figure 4 – HP Web Jetadmin Upgrade – Filter Issue Message These messages (encountered at first client startup) are displayed only once. The groups and filters messages remain in the HP Web Jetadmin Application Log. Locate the application log by selecting View, Application Log on the HP Web Jetadmin menu bar. Within the application log, sort by the field Action Details and look for the text “Upgrade - Group Issue” or “Upgrade - Filter Issue”.
After the upgrade is complete and the filter and groups details are known, the administrator should begin to address all issues noted. The process for addressing these issues is simple. The following items can cause the HP Web Jetadmin upgrade to flag an issue: 1. Filter is invalid 2. Column text string used in filter has changed or is no longer usable 3. Column property used in filter has changed 4. Column used has been replaced by 5.
NOTE: Names listed in the Advanced Filter Editor are HP Web Jetadmin Programmatic Names. Use the tables supplied in the Appendix to determine HP Web Jetadmin Service Release 5 filter editor names. At this time, the Appendix and this document are English only. NOTE: See the new white paper at http://www.hp.com/go/wja that describes new HP Web Jetadmin column functionality.
