Setup & configuration of a standalone VMA SAN Gateway
This section gives guidance for setup and configuration of a Standalone or single VMA SAN
Gateway configuration. It can also be used for setup and configuration of the ‘primary’
gateway of a redundant VMA SAN Gateway pair. If you have an existing standalone
gateway and need to add-in a ‘secondary’ gateway to form a redundant gateway pair or if
you have two standalone gateways which you intend to pair, please go to the section below
titled “Setup & configuration of a redundant VMA SAN Gateway pair”. Additional
information and details for connection and setup of a standalone VMA SAN Gateway
configuration can be found in the
HP VMA SAN Gateway Installation and Configuration
Guide For Release G5.5.1 – AM456-9025A
, available at www.hp.com/go/vma-docs.
Configuration of a standalone VMA SAN Gateway is comprised of the following steps:
1. VMA SAN Gateway Hardware Configuration
2. VMA SAN Gateway Software Configuration
3. SAN Connectivity with the VMA SAN Gateway
4. Configuring and Presenting LUNs to connected Host Servers
VMA SAN Gateway hardware configuration
The base VMA SAN Gateway, Part Number A0R65A, comes with:
Two dual port 8Gb FC adapters (acting as four storage target ports)
Redundant (two) power supplies
Two 146GB SAS disks configured with RAID1 mirroring
Preloaded with the vSHARE software operating environment (OE)
HP Supports a maximum of two VMA-series Arrays connected to one VMA SAN Gateway. For a
standalone gateway configuration, each VMA-series Array requires one VMA PCIe Pass Thru Card
(P/N AM464A which must be ordered with the array) installed in the VMA SAN Gateway and one
PCIe cable connecting the VMA SAN Gateway to the VMA Array. You can mix models of VMA-series
Memory Arrays connected to the VMA SAN Gateway.
