Configuring a Redundant Pair of VMA SAN Gateways - Process Guide
4
• Appropriate versions of VMA Array firmware upgrade file and VMA SAN Gateway software
upgrade file which support redundant pair gateway configurations. For the initial release of
the VMA SAN Gateway Redundant Pair feature this will be VMA Array firmware version
A5.1.3 and VMA SAN Gateway software OE version G5.1.0.
• A Laptop with a serial cable (can be a USB to serial converter with a serial cable for Laptops
which do not have an integrated serial port) or a KVM setup to perform configuration
changes. It is recommended to perform these configuration changes directly via serial port
or KVM connection to avoid any switched network disruptions that could disconnect active
ssh sessions.
• An appropriate number of FC cables and Ethernet cables needed for making the required
connections between the gateway, the switches and the host servers.
In addition to the list of components above, you must review and have a very good understanding of
the commands, tasks and processes documented in the following documents:
• HP VMA-series SAN Gateway Installation and User Guide (P/N AM456-9007B-Rev 2)
• HP VMA SAN Gateway Software Update Guide (P/N AM456-9022A)
• HP VMA3205 and VMA3210 Array Firmware Update Guide (P/N AM456-9021A)
Refer to the command and task examples shown in the above documents for additional reference and
guidance for usage of commands and tasks mentioned in this process guide.
The above documents and other documents relevant to the VMA-series Arrays and SAN Gateway are
available at www.hp.com/go/vma-docs
Following is an example drawing of a redundant pair configuration of VMA SAN Gateways with
dually connected VMA arrays giving an overall view of connectivity of FC SAN Switches, LAN
Switches, VMA SAN Gateways and VMA Arrays.
