Note that the displayed ‘master’ and ‘standby’ status is only with respect to gateway management
functions and not data access to connected arrays. Redundant pairs of VMA SAN Gateways act as
Active/Active controllers for data access to connected VMA Arrays.
Shutdown Secondary VMA SAN Gateway
At this time, shutdown the ‘secondary’ gateway to prepare for connecting it to the VMA Arrays using
the PCIe cables. To shutdown the ‘secondary’ gateway use the CLI of the ‘secondary’ gateway to
issue the ‘reload halt’ command.
Be careful when using the web interface to shutdown a gateway as it will shutdown the gateway
which is the current ‘master’ of the redundant pair.
Wait for the ‘secondary’ gateway to fully shutdown before proceeding as indicated by the power
button turning from green to amber.
Complete Pairing Process and Configure Host Servers
This is the final major section of tasks to perform in order to establish the redundant pair of VMA SAN
Gateways. In this last section the VMA Arrays will be connected to the secondarygateway and
verification of ‘HA’ status for array containers and LUN performed. A backup of the configuration of
the Redundant VMA SAN Gateway Pair will be created for recovery purposes. Host servers
connected to the newly established redundant gateway pair will require multipath configuration
changes and the final verification of the gateway pair can be performed.
Connect Secondary Gateway to VMA Array(s)
Ensure the ‘secondary’ gateway is shutdown (power button on front of system will be amber) before
connecting it to the VMA Arrays using the PCIe cables.
