Note that the ‘Status’ of the container and created LUNs show a degraded mode. This is because the
‘dual x4’ mode firmware has been updated on the VMA Array making both PCIe ports A and B on
the array active, yet only the A ports of the array(s) are connected and active. Because PCIe port B of
the arrays are not yet connected to the ‘secondary’ gateway and are inactive, full bandwidth to the
array is not possible and HA status is not achievable.
Whenever configuration changes are made to the VMA SAN Gateway, always save the
configurations so they will be persistent. This can be performed using either the VMA SAN Gateway
CLI interface or the web interface:
If using the CLI interface, issue the ‘write memory’ command
If using the web interface, click on the red ‘Commit Changes’ button at the top center of the
window.
This now completes the Preparation steps required and you can continue to the next major step of the
VMA SAN Gateway pairing process.
Configure Reliable Network with Primary Gateway
Network configuration and settings required for a redundant pair of gateways are not the same as for
a standalone gateway. For a redundant gateway pair, a more reliable network connection and
configuration will be established. Network settings and configuration for redundant pairs of
gateways are different and may be in conflict with prior Ethernet port and VLAN configuration
settings used previously for standalone gateway deployments.
Note that the vCLUSTER feature, which is used for management of multiple gateways from a master
gateway, is not the same as redundant gateway pairs for highly available data access to VMA
