Upgrading to Integrity VM Version 4.0 from 3.X

Rolling updates for Guests as Serviceguard Packages

When the guests are packages, the host upgrade is a combination of the standard Serviceguard

rolling update (see Managing Serviceguard for a full description) combined with the Integrity VM

specific steps outlined earlier in this document. Here is the modified sequence of operations:

1. Make sure all guests boot before any update. Perform the Pre-Upgrade Preparation Steps detailed

above, and backup the guests and host.

2. Move the VM Guests (packages) away from the node (VM host) to be upgraded (see Figure 7).

3. Update (or cold migrate) the OS, Integrity VM and Serviceguard software on the node being

upgraded. (Note that if the cluster is already running Serviceguard 11.18, no update to the

Serviceguard software will be required). Refer to the Cold Migration Steps and/or Update Steps

sections above.

4. Check the ITRC and install any relevant patches.

5. Move the VM Guests (packages) back to the node that has been upgraded.

NOTE:

Do not install the Integrity VM 4.0 guest kits at this time. If there happens

to be a failover and the kits are installed, the guests may not function

properly on a host that has not yet been upgraded.

6. Repeat steps 1 – 5 for the remaining nodes in the cluster.

7. Upon the completion of the final upgrade, install the Integrity VM 4.0 guest kit on all guests.

Rolling upgrades for Guests as Serviceguard Cluster Nodes

In general this is the same as the standard Serviceguard rolling upgrade procedure (see Managing

Serviceguard for a full description). Packages are moved away from the Serviceguard nodes (guests)

on the hosts to be upgraded.

1. Perform the Pre-Upgrade Preparation Steps detailed above, and backup the guests and host to be

upgraded.

2. Move all of the packages from all of the guests that are service guard cluster nodes on the host

(see Figure 8).
