Introducing HP-UX 11i Virtual Partitions

Serviceguard can be used with vPars to further improve application availability.
Improved performance configuration and productivity
Performance and application-specific tuning is important when deploying and managing separate
OS instances. With HP-UX 11i Virtual Partitions, each vPar can be tuned independent of the other
vPars. Hence, based on the application you want to run on a vPar, the OS can be tuned to get
optimal performance for the application.
ISPs, for example, deploy small Web servers for customers that need to manage their own content.
vPars provides a means for isolating one set of users from another through data isolation and the
ability to tune performance and application parameters on a per OS basis.
Negligible performance overhead
With HP-UX 11i Virtual Partitions, the performance overhead of virtual partitions is negligible.
Applications running on a vPar exhibit near native performance of a hard partition or server
configured with similar resources. In addition, performance interference between vPars is also
negligible, as resources are dedicated to individual OS instances at any given time.
