Description
Under certain conditions where a virtual partition has both its primary and
alternate boot paths assigned and the Autosearch is set to On, the
nPartition may reset.
Symptoms
When all the following conditions for a virtual partition are met, the
nPartition containing the virtual partition may reset (either a silent reset or
a partial cell reset):
the virtual partition is configured with both primary and alternate boot
paths
the autosearch flag for the virtual partition is set to On (SEARCH)
reading the kernel from the primary booth path fails.
Workaround
If the nPartition does not recover on its own, from the GSP, reset the
nPartition with the reset (RS) command.
As a permanent workaround, you can perform either one of the following:
set the autosearch flag to nosearch for each virtual partition that has
an alternate path (:ALTBOOT) configured:
vparmodify -p
partition_name
-B nosearch
For more information on the autosearch setting, see the Commands
chapter in the Installing and Managing HP-UX Virtual Partitions
manual.
