vPars Checklist
This section is a brief checklist of common but significant items that you should check while
performing your vPars setup.
Firmware Checklist
Check Server Firmware:
Please check the vPars Ordering & Configuration Guide for the required server firmware.
For the non-nPartition-able systems, please note that firmware upgrades must be done
outside of the vPars environment (in standalone mode).
For nPartition-able systems, please call your HP Support Representative.
Networking and IO Card Firmware:
Please check the vPars Ordering & Configuration Guide for the required card firmware.
You should also check the firmware on new cards because it is possible they have not been
updated with the firmware required for vPars.
Memory Configuration:
Checking the memory configuration before installing vPars consists of the following:
The ILM and CLM values in the server’s NVRAM (non-volatile RAM).
The ILM and CLM granularity values for the vPars database.
NVRAM
Even for new systems, the values for ILM and CLM values must be checked because it is
possible for a firmware update to alter the values in NVRAM. For older systems, it is
possible that a previous system administrator needed to change these values.
Below represents the guidelines to following when configuring NVRAM for vPars.
ILM values must be equal across all cells.
For vPars A.04.xx, the value of ILM must be equal across all cells, even if the total
memory across all cells is not equal (see “Panic Caused by Unequal Amounts of
Allocated ILM” on page 36). This also means that the amount of CLM per cell may
differ. To insure that all the ILM values are equal, follow the procedure in the A.04.xx
IO, Memory and CPU chapter of Installing and Managing HP-UX Virtual Partitions.
