Online Diagnostics
Online Diagnostics contains the following utilities:
Event Monitoring Service (EMS) Hardware Monitors EMS Hardware Monitors
proactively and continuously monitor the status of hardware components and
automatically notify you when a component is failing or has failed.
Support Tools Manager (STM) STM enables you to instantly check the status
and property information of hardware components and perform various tests on
hardware components.
This section describes EMS Hardware Monitors and STM.
EMS Hardware Monitors
EMS Hardware Monitors are software utilities that enable hardware monitoring on a
system that is running the HP-UX operating system software. Hardware monitoring uses
special processes (daemons) to continuously monitor hardware components for the
occurrence of any unusual activity, called an event. If an event is detected, a message that
includes information about the event, the cause, and corrective action is immediately sent
using the notification method defined for the hardware monitor.
