System Fault Management
You can use the System Fault Management (SFM) utility on a system running HP-UX to
dynamically query for status and property information about common hardware
components:
• Processor
• Memory
• Temperature and cooling devices
• Voltage and power supply
SFM also monitors supported hardware components for the occurrence of any unusual
activity, called an event. If SFM detects an event, it immediately alerts you with an event
message that identifies the event, the cause, and possible corrective action.
SFM is installed by default on a system running the HP-UX 11i v1 and later operating
system software. You can view SFM information using the following interfaces:
• Use HP Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM) for information about local and
remote systems.
• Use HP System Management Homepage (HP SMH) for information about local
systems.
The following sections provide more detail about the type of SFM information that you
can display using SIM and SHM.
