Diagnostics Overview Guide

• Run various tests when it is not advisable to boot to the operating system first, as
is often the case in manufacturing environment.
• Map out the physical layout of the CPU and its peripherals.
• Test peripherals attached to the boot path.
• Test disks, CUP, memory, I/O cards, and selected I/O modules.
• Use the command-line interface or the menu-driven interface to run the tools on
32-bit systems.
You do not need a system disk to run ODE; however, if you do not have the HP 9000
Offline Diagnostics Environment CD, you can run the offline diagnostics utilities using
the Boot Logical Interchange Format (LIF) volume from the system disk. Before doing
so, consider the following:
• The system disk contains only a subset of the most commonly used offline
diagnostics tools.
• You cannot use the menu-driven interface.
HP recommends that you run the offline diagnostic utilities using the HP 9000 Offline
ODE CD for the following reasons:
• You need access to the complete set of offline diagnostic utilities.
• The system is not booted to the operating system.
For more information about obtaining and running the offline diagnostic utilities, see the
Offline Diagnostics Environment Administrator’s and User’s Guide.
