HP-UX System Administrator's Guide: Overview

Other System Management Tools
There are also other tools to assist you with various aspects of administering an HP-UX
system. These include:
EVM - Event Management
In HP-UX 11i version 3, the kernel, software applications, and the server hardware can
post events to the Event Management Daemon. Users can then subscribe to these events
in order to be alerted to occurrences of events that concern them.
To subscribe to events, a user (or system administrator) can use the System Management
Homepage (use Tools Evweb Subscription Administration) or the evweb
command (see the evweb(1) and evweb_subscribe(1) manpages).
ProviderSvcsBase
New since March, 2009 is the ProviderSvcsBase product, which notifies subscribing
clients of HP-UX kernel error log records. A daemon called oserrlogd reads the
records, stores them in the circular log files, and then sends EVM notification to
subscribing clients.
This product is a required (always-installed) product in all OEs. For more information,
see the HP-UX 11i Version 3 March 2009 Release Notes.
Partition Manager
Partition Manager is used to configure nPartitions on cell-based servers. It runs as a
workspace in the HP System Management Homepage (HP SMH) portal. Partition
Manager can be launched from the Tools menu in HP SMH or can be launched from
a supported web browser by entering the URL:
http://yoursystemname.domainname:2301/parmgr
and logging in. When launching Partition Manager from the HP SMH Tools menu,
choose one of the items from the list of nPartition Management tools:
View and Manage Complex, to manage the complex in which HP System
Management Homepage is running.
View and Manage Remote Complex, to login to a remote complex or nPartition
that you want to manage.
Partition Manager can be used to:
Reconfigure nPartitions
Create new partitions
Remove partitions (to free up resources for other uses)
Add cell boards to a partition
