5 HP-UX Patching and Patch Management
HP releases patches to deliver incremental updates to your system. Patches are best
known for delivering defect fixes, but also deliver new functionality and features,
enable new hardware, and update firmware. You can use HP-UX patches to update
HP-UX software without having to completely reinstall your system application.
The Patch Management User Guide for HP-UX 11.x Systems provides information and
procedures on how to acquire and install standard HP-UX patch bundles, including
the Hardware Enablement (HWE) and Quality Pack (QPK) bundles. Go to the HP
Technical Documentation Web sites at:
http://docs.hp.com/en/oshpux11iv2.html#Patch%20Management
http://docs.hp.com/en/oshpux11iv3.html#Patch%20Management
This guide applies to the HP-UX 11.0 (B.11.00), HP-UX 11i v1 (B.11.11), HP-UX 11i v1.6
(B.11.22), HP-UX 11i v2 (B.11.23), and HP-UX 11i v3 (B.11.31) releases. In addition, the
IT Resource Center is a good resource for patches, tools, and information at:

NOTE: The HP patch resources are for HP-related patches only. To install or upgrade
other vendor patches and applications, refer to the appropriate vendor documentation
