HP-UX Software Assistant Frequently Asked Questions (5900-3004, March 2013)

4 Reports
What is the default report generated by SWA?
The default report is the Action report.
What is the Action report?
The Action report is the “to do” list generated to resolve the issues identified by the selected
analyzers. It will include all patch dependencies needed to install the required patches on any
system. Each report includes a section for required patch bundles, patches, and manual actions.
What is the Issue report?
The Issue report contains a section describing the individual issues identified by each selected
analyzer. It is especially useful to see a complete list of missing patches when using the PATCH or
CHAIN analyzers or a complete and concise list of security bulletins describing active exposures.
What is the Detail report?
The Detail report provides the cross reference of the actions and issues. Within the report, each
action is listed with the issues it resolves, as well as any identified patch dependencies. Expanded
data for each issue may be available.
What is the HTML report?
The HTML report combines the Action, Issue and Detail reports into a single file formatted for
viewing within a web browser. The report content includes direct links to ITRC documents for full
details such as: security bulletins, patch warnings, patch documentation and bundle contents.
What is detection confidence (DC)?
The SEC (security bulletin) analyzer was built to report any bulletin that might be applicable to an
HP-UX system. This may result in SWA reporting issues that do not exist on the target system. For
this reason, detection confidence is provided. In some cases SWA can be certain that a bulletin
is applicable and has not been addressed. These bulletins are assigned a detection confidence of
Definite. A bulletin may require an action that SWA cannot detect, such as editing a file or changing
directory permissions. A detection confidence of Relevant is used to indicate the software specified
by the bulletin is present, but the resolving action is not detectable by SWA. SWA cannot detect
software that is not installed using the SD-UX swinstall(1m) command. Software provided by HP
that supports the current HP-UX release, but is not detectable by SWA, will be given the detection
confidence of Unknown.
