Using Logging and Tracing
Tracing
Chapter 3 97
Controlling Internal Trace Files
You can enable all tracing when SNA starts by issuing snap start -t.
To perform internal tracing using the Motif administration program,
complete the following steps:
Step 1. Enter xsnapadmin from the command line to start the Motif
administration program and display the main window.
Step 2. Select the Diagnostics menu, then select Node tracing. The Tracing
dialog is displayed.
Step 3. Select
All Tracing
to perform internal tracing.
Step 4. Select
Truncate messages
and enter the maximum message size, in
bytes. This can be helpful if a large amount of data is being traced and
you are interested in the protocol exchanges rather than in the data
itself. Protocol data is usually at the start of the individual messages.
Step 5. When you have done this, click OK.
Tracing is now enabled and written to the following binary files:
/var/opt/sna/sna1.trc
/var/opt/sna/sna2.trc
To perform internal tracing using the command-line administration
program, do the following:
Step 1. Optionally specify the snapadmin set_trace_file command with the
trace_file_type
parameter:
snapadmin set_trace_file, trace_file_type = IPS
Step 2. When you have done this, press Enter.
Step 3. Add the
trace_flags
parameter to the snapadmin set_trace_type
command to specify whether to turn all tracing on or off, or to activate
tracing on specific message types:
To turn all tracing on or off, specify the
trace_flags
parameter and
one of the following values:
ALL Tracing of all types
NONE No tracing
