HP-UX SNAplus2 Diagnostics Guide
Resolving Common Problems
Basic Checks

under “DLCs”, each of which represents a physical communications
adapter that supports one or more ports. The Motif administration
program automatically defines and starts the DLC components when
ports are defined and started. When using the command-line
administration program, however, you must explicitly define and
start the DLCs to which the ports belong.
Step 3. If links to other SNA nodes have been established, then start the
DLC/port or link station. Refer to the HP-UX SNAplus2 Administration
Guide for more information about starting DLCs/ports and link stations.
Step 4. If the DLC/port and LS are not all now active, then refer to the sections
below.
DLC/Port Fails to Start
If the DLC/port fails to start then you should check the error log file.
If you are still unable to resolve the problem then the following checks
will help you to locate the most common causes of the problem.
Step 1. Check that the required adapter cards and associated device drivers
have all been installed correctly. (Refer to the documentation that came
with these products.)
Step 2. Check that the configured adapter card number (the
adapter_number
parameter) matches that used by the hardware. For more information,
refer to the section on configuring port and DLC configuration
parameters in the HP-UX SNAplus2 Administration Guide.
Check the DLC configuration in one of the following ways:
• If you are using the Motif administration program, zoom on the
DLC/port.
• If you are using the command-line administration program then issue
the snapadmin query_dlc command to view the DLC configuration.
Step 3. If your adapter card can support more than one port, check that the
configured port number (the
port_number
parameter) matches that used
by the hardware. For more information, refer to the section on
configuring Port and DLC configuration parameters in the HP-UX
SNAplus2 Administration Guide.
Use the ioscan command to see which adapters are installed and what
their port numbers are.
