PurposeModule
Embeds a Perl interpreter into the Apache web server, which allows other modules to
be developed in Perl.
mod_perl
Allows Tomcat to handle Java Servlet and JSP requests while Apache httpd handles
requests for static and dynamic content implemented in PHP, Perl, or Python.
mod_jk
Application Server
The application server delivers applications and web services to clients.
The OSRA application server component is the Apache Tomcat application server.
Apache Tomcat (or Tomcat) is a J2EE servlet and Java Server Pages (JSP) engine for deploying
Web applications.
The following lists the Apache Tomcat features:
• Web Container, which provides the runtime environment through components that provide
naming context and life cycle management.
• Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) Connector, which allows Java application servers to
access various databases.
• Embedded Web Server.
Directory Server
A Directory Server centralizes application settings, user profiles, group data, policies, and access
control information into an operating system-independent, network-based repository. Security
may also be improved by storing policies and access control information, creating a single
authentication source for both operating systems and applications.
The OSRA Directory Server component is the HP-UX Directory Server. However, HP-UX Directory
Server is only available for HP-UX 11i v2 and v3. For OSRA on HP-UX 11i v1, use the Red Hat
Directory Server.
HP-UX Directory Server for HP-UX is an open source LDAP-based server that forms the central
repository for an Identity Management infrastructure, simplifies user management, eliminates
data redundancy and automates data maintenance.
Database Server
A Database Server is a data storage and retrieval system. Database servers typically run on a
dedicated computer and are accessed by client applications over a network.
The OSRA Database component is the MySQL Enterprise Database Server and MySQL
Connector/J.
The MySQL Connector/J is a native Java driver that converts JDBC (Java Database Connectivity)
calls from the application server into the network protocol used by the MySQL database.
Management Server (optional)
A Management Server provides management and administration of distributed computer systems.
The OSRA Management Server component is the OpenView Management Server.
The HP OpenView management software suite optimizes, automates and aligns business
operations with IT. The OpenView Management Server hosts HP OpenView Operations (OVO)
for manageability through Smart Plug-Ins (SPI).
OVO SPIs provide infrastructure impact and application insight for application management,
IT service management, and infrastructure management solutions. SPIs are preconfigured to
easily install and link with the OVO console to extend capabilities and more fully manage
