HP-UX MD5 Secure Checksum Release Notes Announcement Announcement The HP-UX MD5 Secure Checksum A.01.00.00 bundle contains a secure checksum command (md5sum) and hashing libraries that provide a file integrity mechanism based on the standard MD5 algorithm. The md5sum command generates 128-bit wide digests and by default runs in multi-threaded mode, whereby input files are processed in parallel.
HP-UX MD5 Secure Checksum Release Notes What’s in This Version What’s in This Version The HP-UX MD5 Secure Checksum (codenamed MD5Checksum) bundle consists of the following two components that can be installed independently: • HP-UX MD5sum (md5sum checksum command) • HP-UX LibCryptX (libcryptx libraries providing MD5 APIs) The HP-UX MD5sum product provides the md5sum command, a more secure alternative to the cksum command. The cksum command is a file integrity checker currently available on HP-UX.
HP-UX MD5 Secure Checksum Release Notes What’s in This Version The md5sum command and APIs support hashing of large files up to 261 bytes in size. • High Performance and multi-threading capability The md5sum command provides the -n option to hash input file arguments in parallel (see md5sum (1)), significantly increasing the overall command performance. This performance improvement is based on a patented1 architecture.
