International Code Set Support
Single- and multibyte character code sets are supported within mail text. Headers are restricted to charac-
ters from the 7-bit USASCII character code set (see ascii(5)).
WARNINGS
Where command is shown as valid, arguments are not always allowed. Experimentation is recommended.
Internal variables imported from the execution environment cannot be
unset.
The full internet addressing is not fully supported by
mailx. The new internationalization standards need
some time to settle down.
mail(1), the standard mail delivery program, treats a line consisting solely of a dot (
.) as the end of the
message.
Using two separate mail programs to access the same mail file simultaneously (usually inadvertently from
two separate windows) can cause unpredictable results.
Arguments containing multiple words must be enclosed in quotes. Otherwise they may be interpreted
incorrectly.
