HP-UX Reference (11i v1 05/09) - 3 Library Functions A-M (vol 6)

h
hypot(3M) hypot(3M)
NAME
hypot() - Euclidean distance function
SYNOPSIS
#include <math.h>
double hypot(double x, double y);
DESCRIPTION
hypot() returns sqrt(x*x+y
*y), taking precautions against unwarranted overflows.
The ISO/ANSI C committee has approved the
hypot() function for inclusion in the C9X draft standard.
To use this function, compile either with the default
-Ae option or with the -Aa and -D_HPUX_SOURCE
options. Make sure your program includes <
math.h>. Link in the math library by specifying -lm on the
compiler or linker command line.
RETURN VALUE
If x or y is NaN,
hypot() returns NaN.
If the correct value would overflow,
hypot() returns HUGE_VAL.
If the correct value after rounding would be smaller in magnitude than MINDOUBLE, hypot() returns
zero.
ERRORS
No errors are defined.
