Red Hat Directory Server B.08.00.02 for HP-UX Release Notes and Supplemental Instructions

6 Migrating to Red Hat Directory Server 8.0
This chapter describes how to migrate a Netscape Directory Server version 6.11 or 6.21 or a Red
Hat Directory Server 7.1 to Red Hat Directory Server 8.0.
HP does not support migration from Netscape Directory Server 6.02 or earlier versions, such as
3.x, 4.x, 6.02, or iPlanet Directory Server 5.0.
For additional information, see Chapter 8, "Migrating From Previous Versions," in the Red Hat
Directory Server 8.0 Installation Guide before you start the migration process.
6.1 Migration Disk Space Requirements
Before migrating your Directory Server, you must allocate sufficient disk space in the following
directories:
/opt/dirsrv
/etc/opt/dirsrv
/var/opt/dirsrv
The migration procedure creates duplicate Directory Server instances and databases for each
server you have on the current host. The migration procedure can require as much as triple your
current disk usage in the /var/opt directory and consume additional disk space in /etc/opt
and /opt file directories for each instance migrated. For more information about the disk space
required for a Directory Server instance, see Section 3.1.2 (page 17).
6.2 Migration Tools
HP supports the following migration tools:
/opt/dirsrv/sbin/migrate-ds-admin.pl
The migrate-ds-admin.pl script migrates one or more Netscape Directory Server 6.11,
6.21, or Red Hat Directory Server 7.1 instances and the Administration Server to Red Hat
Directory Server 8.0.
/opt/dirsrv/sbin/migrate-ds.pl
The migrate-ds.pl script migrates one or more Netscape Directory Server 6.11, 6.21, or
Red Hat Directory Server 7.1 instances to a standalone Red Hat Directory Server 8.0 Directory
Server, without a centralized administration framework. It does not configure a Red Hat
Directory Server 8.0 Administration Server.
These tools provide flexible options for a variety of different migration scenarios, which include
migrating a specific Directory Server instance or all Directory Server instances on the same
machine or migrating the Directory Server to a different machine.
The migration tools are not interactive and provide the following features:
No prompts appear, and you are not required to enter any information or approve any step
in the migration process. The script displays the migration status after the migration
completes.
The migration tools copy the Directory Server information and settings from the existing
Directory Server instance to the new instance.
The existing Directory Server instance is not modified or destroyed.
For information on the migration scenarios and how to use the migration tools, see Chapter 8,
"Migrating From Previous Versions," in the Red Hat Directory Server 8.0 Installation Guide.
