PRM Release Notes Announcement Announcement HP Process Resource Manager (PRM) Version C.03.00 supports the HP-UX 11i (B.11.11) operating systems on HP 9000 servers. It also supports the HP-UX 11i Version 2.0 (B.11.23) operating system running on either HP 9000 servers or HP Integrity servers. HP PRM provides an efficient and flexible way to manage resource allocation at times of peak system load.
PRM Release Notes What’s in this version What’s in this version PRM Version C.03.00 includes the following new features or changes: • Integration with the HP product Security Containment Security Containment, available for HP-UX 11i v2 (B.11.23) and later, allows you to define secure compartments to isolate files and processes. Using PRM, you can map secure compartments to PRM groups—and manage the resource allocations for your secure compartments. This combination is known as Secure Resource Partitions.
PRM Release Notes Known problems and workarounds • To make memory management more robust, the following changes have been made: — PRM_SYS is now able to import memory — OTHERS must always be able to export (You cannot set EXPORT for OTHERS to 0.) • PRM no longer includes its own JRE on HP-UX 11i v1 Previously, this was true only for HP-UX 11i v2. PRM now relies on the JRE installed at /opt/java1.4/jre/bin/java, which must be version 1.4.2 or later. • The revision of the PRM-Sw-Krn.
PRM Release Notes Known problems and workarounds Deadlock when starting via RC scripts Issue Workaround A MRG memory contention deadlock may occur at boot time if: • PRM is started via an RC script (/etc/rc.config.d/prm) and is configured with MRG memory records • Other applications, such as databases, started via RC scripts have real-time priority or higher priority than the PRM daemons and consume most of the free memory To avoid this deadlock, PRM’s /etc/rc.config.
PRM Release Notes Known problems and workarounds No PSET PRM group data from GlancePlus Issue GlancePlus has not been enhanced to recognize processor sets. If you have defined PRM groups based on processor sets in your PRM configuration, GlancePlus returns no information for these PRM groups. Workaround For configurations with processor sets defined, use the prmmonitor command instead of GlancePlus.
PRM Release Notes Known problems and workarounds Alternate names have limit on length Issue Due to a kernel limitation, the PRM application manager cannot identify alternate names that are greater than 64 characters in length, or scripts where the combination of the alternate name and command name is greater than 64 characters. Workaround Be sure these names do not exceed 64 characters.
PRM Release Notes Known problems and workarounds Unable to get CPU entitlement due to number of processes Issue PRM provides a PRM group its entitlement on an SMP system by granting the group its entitlement on each CPU. If the group does not have at least one process for each CPU, PRM increases the entitlements for the processes to compensate. For example, for a PRM group with a single-threaded process, a 10% entitlement of four CPUs results in a 40% entitlement on one CPU.
PRM Release Notes Known problems and workarounds Network Node Manager and PRM’s SNMP structures Issue When you install the OpenView products after installing PRM, the OpenView networking products, including Network Node Manager, do not recognize PRM’s SNMP structures. Workaround Run the following command: # /opt/OV/bin/xnmloadmib -load /opt/prm/prm.my -replace This command is automatically run when you install PRM and when you boot the system.
PRM Release Notes Compatibility information and installation requirements libprmext “not removed” on PRM upgrade Issue When upgrading your version of PRM, you may see the following message in /var/adm/sw/swagent.log: File “/opt/prm/lib/hpux32/libprmext.so.2” could not be removed. It was renamed and added to the cleanup file “/var/adm/sw/cleanupfile”.

PRM Release Notes Compatibility information and installation requirements Step 5. Ensure the NodeHostNameXpnd bundle is installed if you want to use long hostnames on HP-UX 11i v2. Configure long hostnames as described below. Set the kernel tunable to allow long hostnames: # kctune expanded_node_host_names=1 Set the node and hostname, with the changes being persistent across boots: # /sbin/set_parms hostname where hostname is the literal string hostname—not the desired hostname.
