PRM Release Notes Announcement Announcement HP Process Resource Manager (PRM) Version C.02.03 supports the HP-UX 11i (B.11.11) operating systems on HP 9000 servers. It also supports the HP-UX 11i Version 2.0 (B.11.23) operating system running on either HP 9000 servers or on HP Integrity servers. HP PRM provides an efficient and flexible way to manage resource allocation at times of peak system load.
PRM Release Notes What’s in this version What’s in this version PRM Version C.02.03 includes the following new features or changes: • Support for large uname and hostname • Usage of /var/tmp/ Previously, PRM kept the following files in /var/tmp/: PRM.prmconf PRM.prmconf.old Only PRM.prmconf is now kept in /var/tmp/. PRM.prmconf.old and various backup files are now stored in /var/opt/prm/. • The products available in the bundles have changed as shown in the following table.

Workaround Use prmconfig -s to locate problems in the file. Fix the file in a text editor. prm3d consumes excessive resources Issue Because of a pthread issue triggered by Java, prm3d can occasionally become a runaway process, consuming excessive CPU resources.
PRM Release Notes Known problems and workarounds No PSET PRM group data from GlancePlus Issue GlancePlus has not been enhanced to recognize processor sets. If you have defined PRM groups based on processor sets in your PRM configuration, GlancePlus returns no information for these PRM groups. Workaround For configurations with processor sets defined, use the prmmonitor command instead of GlancePlus.

To start the prm3d daemon and prmagt, type the following commands: # /opt/prm/bin/prm3d # /opt/prm/bin/prmagt Alternate names have limit on length Issue Due to a kernel limitation, the PRM application manager cannot identify alternate names that are greater than 64 characters in length, or scripts where the combination of the alternate name and command name is greater than 64 characters.
PRM Release Notes Known problems and workarounds Workaround On HP-UX 11i V1.0 (B.11.11), install patches PHKL_30032, PHKL_30033, PHKL_30034, PHKL_30035, PHKL_30036, and PHKL_30037. Install all these patches at the same time. For patch descriptions, see “HP-UX 11i V1.0 (B.11.11) patches” on page 14. These patches address CR# JAGae14311. On HP-UX 11i V2.0 (B.11.23), install the BUNDLE11i patch bundle. Any version of this bundle is acceptable.
PRM Release Notes Known problems and workarounds Network Node Manager and PRM’s SNMP structures Issue When you install the OpenView products after installing PRM, the OpenView networking products, including Network Node Manager, do not recognize PRM’s SNMP structures. Workaround Run the following command: # /opt/OV/bin/xnmloadmib -load /opt/prm/prm.my -replace This command is automatically run when you install PRM and when you boot the system. prmavail not showing VxVM disk groups Issue On HP-UX 11i V1.
PRM Release Notes Known problems and workarounds libprmext “not removed” on PRM upgrade Issue When upgrading your version of PRM, you may see the following message in /var/adm/sw/swagent.log: File “/opt/prm/lib/hpux32/libprmext.so.2” could not be removed. It was renamed and added to the cleanup file “/var/adm/sw/cleanupfile”.

Disk and memory requirements PRM Version C.02.03 requires: • 110 Mbytes on HP-UX 11i V1.
PRM Release Notes Compatibility information and installation requirements PRM is installed in /opt/prm/. PRM man pages are also installed in /opt/prm/. NOTE If you have made any modifications to your /etc/rc.config.d/prm file and the corresponding file being shipped with the PRM being installed has changed, the file /var/adm/sw/swagent.log will note a conflict. If there is a conflict, merge the file /usr/newconfig/etc/rc.config.d/prm with your /etc/rc.config.d/prm file.
PRM Release Notes Compatibility information and installation requirements HP-UX 11i V1.0 (B.11.11) patches Several patches are needed to use PRM Version C.02.03 with HP-UX 11i V1.0. In addition, HP-UX 11i V1.0 supports processor sets, although that support is provided by a software download. Software/patches available in Quality Packs Processor sets and the following patches, or their successors, are available in recent Support Plus Quality Packs (available for download from http://software.hp.
PRM Release Notes Patches and fixes in this version Compatibility with GlancePlus GlancePlus does not correctly track the PRM ID at the process level for HP-UX 11i V1.0 in versions C.02.65.00 through C.03.25.00. For correct metrics reporting for FSS PRM groups, use GlancePlus Version C.03.35.00 or later. GlancePlus has not been enhanced to recognize processor sets. If you have defined processor sets in your PRM configuration, GlancePlus returns incorrect data for the PRM_SYS group.
