HP-MPI Version 2.0 for Windows Release Note
1 Information About this Release
1.1 Announcement
This release note describes the release of HP-MPI Version 2.0 for Windows®.
HP-MPI V2.0 is the June 2009 release of HP-MPI, the HP fully functional implementation of the
Message Passing Interface standard for Windows. HP-MPI V2.0 for Windows is supported on
servers and workstations running HPC Server 2008 (HPCS), Vista, Server 2008 (32-bit or 64-bit),
Server 2003 (32-bit or 64-bit), or XP (32-bit or 64-bit).
IMPORTANT: Because the Microsoft HPC Scheduler API is no longer compatible with Windows
CCS, HP-MPI V2.0 for Windows does not support Windows CCS. For older Windows CCS
clusters, use HP-MPI V1.1.
1.2 Product Information
HP-MPI is a high-performance implementation of the Message Passing Interface standard.
HP-MPI complies fully with the MPI-1.2 standard and is MPI-2 compliant. HP-MPI provides an
application programming interface and software libraries to support parallel, message-passing
applications that are efficient, portable, and flexible.
HP-MPI uses shared libraries. Therefore, HP-MPI must be installed on all machines in the same
directory or be accessible through a shared file system.
NOTE: The default directory location for HP-MPI for Windows 64-bit is
C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP-MPI
1.2.1 Platforms Supported
HP-MPI V2.0 for Windows is supported on the following hardware running HPCS, Vista, Server
2008 (32-bit or 64-bit), Server 2003 (32-bit or 64-bit), or XP (32-bit or 64-bit). An active directory
domain is required to run HP-MPI.
• HP Cluster Platform 3000 and 4000
• HP ProLiant DL1xx, DL3xx, and DL4xx
NOTE: HP-MPI strives to be compiler neutral. HP-MPI V2.0 for Windows systems was tested
with the Intel 10.1 and 11.0 C, C++ and Fortran compilers, as well as the Visual Studio 2008
compilers. In addition, other compilers can be used if the Fortran calling convention is C by
reference. HP-MPI does not support the Compaq Visual Fortran (CVF) default calling convention.
1.2.2 Directory Structure
All HP-MPI for Windows files are stored in the directory specified at installation (default: C:\
Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP-MPI). The directory structure is organized
as described in Table 1-1.
If you choose to move the HP-MPI installation directory from its default location, set the
MPI_ROOT environment variable to point to the new location.
