Requirements for HP-MPI V1.1 for Windows HP-MPI for V1.1 for Windows is supported on servers and workstations running Windows Compute Cluster Pack (CCP), Windows Server 2003, or Windows XP Professional. An active directory domain is required to run HP-MPI. HP-MPI V1.1 for Windows is supported on the following hardware running Microsoft Windows Compute Cluster Pack, Windows Server 2003, or Windows XP Professional.
NOTE HP-MPI strives to be compiler neutral. HP-MPI V1.1 for Windows systems was tested with the Intel Fortran 9.1, Visual Studio 2005 C, Portland, PGI C, and Fortran 6.1 compilers. Other compilers can be used as well, if the Fortran calling convention is C by reference. HP-MPI does not support the Compaq Visual Fortran (CVF) default calling convention. HP-MPI V1.1 for Windows must be installed by an Administrator.
Licensing Policy for Windows HP-MPI V1.1 for Windows uses FLEXlm licensing technology. A license is required to use HP-MPI for Windows. Licenses can be purchased from HP’s software depot at http://www.hp.com/go/softwaredepot, or contact your HP representative. Demo licenses for HP-MPI are also available from HP’s software depot. HP-MPI has an Independent Software Vendor (ISV) program that allows participating ISVs to freely distribute HP-MPI with their applications.
Licensing for Windows HP-MPI V1.1 for Windows uses FLEXlm licensing technology. A license file can be named either as license.dat or any file name with an extension of .lic. The license file must be placed in the installation directory (default C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HPMPI\licenses) on all the runtime systems, and on the license server. You will need to provide the hostname and hostid number of the system where the FLEXlm daemon for HP-MPI for Windows will run.
environment variable LM_LICENSE_FILE to explicitly specify the location of the license file. For more information, see http://licensing.hp.com. Installing License Files A valid license file contains the system hostid and the associated license key. License files can be named either as license.dat or any name with extension of *.lic (like mpi.lic, for example).

Installation Instructions HP-MPI must be installed on all nodes which will be used to launch or run jobs. The installation directory used must be the same on all nodes. We strongly recommend that you uninstall any previous versions of HP-MPI for Windows before installing V1.1. To install HP-MPI, log in as Administrator and follow the instructions for either an interactive or command line installation below. Standard interactive installation Double-click Setup HP-MPI-1.1-20070420.
package on every node in the cluster and include the '/verysilent' flag. The installer will assume the default values for the installation directory and program group, unless you override them by specifying additional command line parameters. To override the install directory, specify the /DIR="x:\dirname" parameter. To override the program group, specify the /GROUP="group name" parameter.
If you require a license file, you will need to copy one to every node after HP-MPI is installed. To do this, create the 'licenses' directory and copy the 'mpi.lic file' to this directory. Using the clusrun command from the headnode is the easiest way to accomplish this. To create the 'licenses' directory: headnode> clusrun /all mkdir ^ "C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP-MPI ^ \licenses" To copy the license file to all nodes: headnode> clusrun /all copy ^ "\\netshare\path\mpi.
To install HP-MPI, double-click HP-MPI-1.1-20070420.exe and follow the instructions. On the Select Component screen, select the second option HP-MPI libraries, Tools and Services for Windows 2003/XP. This will register and start the Remote Launch service. When installing HP-MPI with remote service, be sure to install on a local disk or the service will not register and start properly. To install HP-MPI from the command line, run setup.exe . The following options are allowed with setup.exe.
executables, except the Remote Launch service. /components="hpmpi" Installs HP-MPI for Windows 2003/XP, including all HP-MPI libraries and tools, help files, and executables, including the Remote Launch service. This will also register and start the Remote Launch service. To install without registering or starting the service, see the /tasks flag below. /tasks="!RegisterService During the installation, this option will not register the HP-MPI Remote Launch service.
Services. Highlight HP-MPI Remote Launch, and select Start. Remote Launch service information The HP-MPI Remote Launch service is located in "%MPI_ROOT%\sbin\HPMPIWin32Service.exe". MPI_ROOT must be located on a local disk or the service will not run properly. To run the service manually, you must register and start the service. To register the service manually, run the service executable with the -i option. To start the service manually, run the service after it is installed with the -start option.
The HP-MPI Remote Launch service runs continually as a Windows service, listening on a port for HP-MPI requests from remote mpirun.exe's. This port must be the same port on all machines, and is established when the service starts. The default TCP port is 8636. If this port is not available, or to change the port, include a port number as a parameter to -i. As an example, to install the service with port number 5004: C:\> "%MPI_ROOT%\sbin\HPMPIWin32Service.
Usage: hpmpiwin32service.
port, make sure you select a port that is available on all remote nodes. Upgrade instructions If HP-MPI is already installed, uninstall the existing version. This can be done with the clusrun command by running the uninstall executable in MPI_ROOT with the /verysilent flag. The uninstall executable name will generally be the same on all nodes. However, be sure to examine the output to verify all nodes uninstalled HP-MPI. Also, check that all files have been removed by the uninstall as an added check.
The only files you should see are the 'licenses' directories. If you see any other directories or files, delete these by hand. It is not uncommon to see a directory missed because a user was running HP-MPI during the uninstall. It is very common to see the uninstall .exe or .dat file not removed. It will make future installs/uninstalls easier if you remove these before installing HP-MPI again. To delete the unins000.
