This release notes discuss the HP-UX 11i v3 (September 2010) release of the Support Tools Manager (STM).

Note: On the HP-UX 11i v3 operating system, Online Diagnostics does not support tape drives. Although some of the

Support Tools Manager (STM) tools may work with tape drives, they are not supported. The diagnostic tools and

utilities that support these devices are HP StorageWorks Library and Tape Tools (L and TT). These tools are available

at:

Overview

The Support Tools Manager (STM) provides a set of online support tools for the HP-UX system, enabling you to

verify and troubleshoot system hardware, and to examine system logs.

STM offers several tool types, including Information tools, Verifiers, Exercisers, Expert tools, Firmware Update tools,

Diagnostics and Utilities.

Prerequisites

Following are the prerequisites for installing Diagnostics and Support Tools:

EMS version A.04.20.31 or later

ProviderSvcsBase C.01.00.xx (March 2009) or later

Notes:

The requirements are available on the Operating Environment (OE) media.

ProviderSvcsBase: The ProviderSvcsBase product offers interface for user space processes (typically, but not

limited to, WBEM Indication Providers) to retrieve error logs from HP-UX Kernel. Using these error logs, a

user space process can generate event (WBEM indication or EMS event), when an event of interest occurs on the

system.

This section describes the defect fixes and changes made to STM for the current release. The following information applies to both Itanium Processor Family (IPF) and PA-RISC systems: QXCR1001011856 Problem: stm incorrectly issues kill SIGHUP -1 when fork fails due to insufficient memory. Problem Description: If cstm fails to fork STM due to shortage of memory, it issues ' kill SIGHUP -1 ' and causes programs running on systems to exit.

cstm main help: file:/usr/sbin/stm/catalog/C/HP-UX_B.11.31/ui/stmc.htm Known Problems and Workarounds Symptom: OnlineDiag does not work properly when the length of the system name exceeds 8 characters. Problem: When the length of the hostname for a system name exceeds 8 characters, OnlineDiag cannot retrieve the hostname. So, OnlineDiag cannot function as expected.

NOTE: Command output: - awk: Error occurred while writing. The input line number is 2. The source line number is 1. Workaround: You can safely ignore this message. Symptom: The disk_em monitors reports incorrect events for errors of ESCSI_LOG_ERR type. Problem: The disk_em is not designed to decode ESCSI_LOG_ERR , as ESCSI_LOG_ERR is related to Asterope events for LUN path H/W path. The disk_em monitors are at the hardware level and not path level.
