STM: Overview
grouping the tools and data needed by each module together, the interaction between the programs is kept to a
minimum allowing for efficient communication and maximum performance.
Local Execution
The Support Tool Manager can be executed as a single program on a single system. In this configuration, the
Control System and System Under Test are the same physical system.
Remote Execution
The Support Tool Manager can be executed as a client/server application. In this configuration, the Control
System is used as the user interface to the System Under Test. In this instance, STM is actually divided across the
two systems.
Multiple Systems
In addition to running STM across two systems, you can also use it to diagnose multiple systems. A single Control
System could be used to access several Systems Under Test. Likewise, several Control Systems could access a
single System Under Test.
STM Overview: User Interfaces
The HP Support Tool Manager can be accessed through any of the three user interfaces provided. Choose the
interface appropriate for your needs, preferences, and resources. All functionality exists in all three interfaces.
Graphical User Interface (xstm)
The Graphical User Interface (xstm) runs on X Window graphics terminals or workstations and provides
graphical access to your system devices and STM's tools. Use either your mouse or keyboard to navigate through
this interface.
