Locales
Changes to Locales [11i v1.6]
Chapter 3
47
To build, run the following command on a 64-bit machine. This command produces 32- and 64-bit locales.
The 64-bit locale is created under the ./pa20_64 directory.
localedef -C '+ESlit' -Q -L -x -Pcnf utf8.cm -m univ.utf8.m -i \
zh_CN.utf8.src zh_CN.utf8 > zh_CN.out 2> zh_CN.err
Compatibility 32-bit locales
•Located at /usr/lib/nls/loc/locales.1/zh_CN.utf8.
Used by HP-UX 10.20 applications.
To build, run the following command on a 10.20 machine, and then copy the locale binary to the 11.0 or
11i system:
localedef -C '+ESlit' -Q -L -x -Pcnf utf8.cm -m univ.utf8.m -i \
zh_CN.utf8.src zh_CN.utf8 > zh_CN.out 2> zh_CN.err
Alternatives
There are options to build locales and get them installed immediately in the default locations. Refer to the
localedef manpage for more information.
Locales under /usr/lib/nls/loc/locales.1 can be copied from a 10.20 machine.
Changes to Locales [11i v1.6]
The following sections highlight the changes to locales with the 11i Version 1.6 release of HP-UX.
zh_HK.big5 Locale Renamed to zh_HK.hkbig5
The zh_HK.big5 locale has been renamed to zh_HK.hkbig5 to support the HKSCS specified character
repertoire within the big5 encoding. This rename was required because unexpected results in the display of
HKSCS characters could occur due to conflicts in the codeset name with the zh_TW.big5 locale.
The behavior for the zh_HK.hkbig5 locale is designed to be upward compatible with that for the zh_HK.big5
locale with the exception of the UDC code area.
New zh_CN.gb18030 Locale Available
A new locale, zh_CN.gb18030 has been introduced to enable support of the GB18030 character set.
Enhancements to the el_GR.utf8 and el_GR.iso88597 Locales
The Greek locales, el_GR.utf8 and el_GR.iso88597 have been enhanced with the addition of 4 new
characters; Euro, Drachma Sign, Greek Ypogegrammeni, and the Greek Question Mark.
Also, the el_GR.utf8 locale binaries now ship as part of the release. Previously, only the el_GR.utf8 source
file was provided.
